Cake shop ads on Facebook and Instagram

Most cake orders start with a birthday someone remembered three days early. The bakery they saw on Instagram that week, with a cake they liked and a number to message, is the one they think of first. Around those orders sits the daily trade in bread, puffs and pastries for people who pass the shop.

Who you’re trying to reach

Cake buyers are mostly parents planning a child’s birthday, couples marking an anniversary, and office teams ordering for a colleague. They order two to five days ahead, they want to see a design close to what they have in mind, and many ask first whether it’s eggless. Your counter trade is a different crowd: students and office staff picking up a puff or a sandwich, and families buying bread, khari and rusk on the way home.

What to put in the ad

Theme cakes for children’s birthdays

Show three or four theme cakes you have actually made, a cartoon, a football, a unicorn, with a starting price per kg and "order two days ahead". Parents send a reference photo on WhatsApp and you quote from there.

Eggless, said clearly

If you bake eggless, put it in the first line of the ad and on the image. For a lot of families it’s the first question, and answering it upfront saves a round of messages.

Seasonal bakes with a last order date

Plum cake and rich fruit cake in December, heart-shaped cakes and brownie boxes for Valentine’s Day, cookie tins and hampers for Diwali. A photo of the box with the price and the last date to order works for each of them.

Lead form or WhatsApp

We’d start with a WhatsApp ad. Cake orders need pictures going back and forth: the reference design, the name to write on top, the flavour, the weight, the delivery time. That is a WhatsApp conversation. A lead form suits bulk orders for an office event or a school function, where you want to call and discuss quantities.

How WhatsApp ads work

Who should see it

Cakes don’t travel well, so keep the area to how far you deliver or how far people will drive to collect, often 4 to 8 km. Target 24 to 45 for birthday cakes, since those buyers are mostly parents of young children and couples. For Christmas cakes and Diwali hampers, you can widen both the area and the age range.

Busy times to plan for

  • Christmas and New Year, for plum cakes and party cakes
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Mother’s Day in May and Father’s Day in June
  • Friendship Day in early August, and Raksha Bandhan
  • Diwali, for cookie tins and gift hampers

Questions

Should I show a price per kg?

A starting price helps, for example theme cakes from a set rate per kg. Custom designs vary too much for one fixed price, so give the starting point in the ad and quote the rest on WhatsApp.

I bake from home. Can I still advertise?

Yes. You need a Facebook Page for the business, and for a WhatsApp ad, a WhatsApp Business number linked to that Page. Keep the area small and say clearly whether you deliver or people collect.

When should a Christmas cake ad go live?

In the first week of December. Plum cake buyers like to order ahead, and some buy several to give away. Plan days start only when the ad goes live, so you can buy the plan in late November and approve the design in time.

Is a Facebook ad better than a pamphlet for cake shop advertisement?

A pamphlet can’t show your last ten theme cakes or take an order at 11 pm. An ad does both, and the customer’s message with the date and flavour lands on your WhatsApp.
